Area fun day to celebrate start of recovery

BANK Holiday fun is on the agenda in Handsworth after the area's main fun day was cancelled because of the floods.

The annual Handsworth Fun day is usually held in July but the ground conditions were too wet following weeks of rain and the event could not go ahead.

But organisers have bounced back with a Bank Holiday event from 12pm until 4pm on Monday.

The event – a mini version of the original fun day – will be held in the grounds of Handsworth Parish Centre behind St Mary’s Church on Handsworth Road.

Maurice Littlewood, chair of the Handsworth Forum who organised the event said: “Handsworth Forum is committed to serving this community so we are not going to let the recent bad weather spoil our fun.

“Many volunteers and staff have worked hard to rearrange the event and make sure Handsworth does not miss out this summer.”

The new event will offer activities for all the family, including a bouncy castle, face painting, trade and community group stalls, a prize raffle, cake stall, food and drink, Ceroc dance taster and an indoor table top sale.
