Action over hip fractures
A MAJOR advance in hip fracture treatment is set to be unveiled by a Sheffield based health firm.
Chapeltown-based B. Braun Medical has created a device which it says increases the success rate of operations to repair broken hips.
The ground-breaking Targon FN hip-screw helps patients back to a normal life with minimal physiotherapy by holding the joint in place and helping to avoid painful swelling which is a common complaint after surgery.
It is thought the device could benefit many thousands of elderly patients who need surgery because they have brittle bones.
