A heavy focus remains on the search for a new Owls manager, but after the addition of winger Andre Green last week, the importance of adding firepower to a squad that has scored only 15 goals in their 23 Championship matches remains.

One name fleetingly linked with a loan switch to Hillsborough has been Leeds United’s Wales international Tyler Roberts, who has found playing time limited in the Premier League this season.

Roberts, who is linked with a host of Championship clubs, came off the bench to play half an hour in their defeat to Brighton this weekend, the most he has played since the start of October.

But speaking earlier in the window, Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa poured cold water on any notion of a Roberts exit in this window.

“Tyler has always been in my plans,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I value him in the football point of view and also in the human aspect and he has an important role inside our team. It is true that he is having difficulties to manage to be able to have continuity but for me he is player who is full of resources and who is very important for us.

“When Tyler has been available he has always been part of the 18-man squad. I don’t ignore that there is a 20-man squad now but I say 18 because it reiterates his importance.”

Speculation around the departure of Jordan Rhodes to QPR has been quashed after the London side brought in Charlie Austin.
