Jephcott, who only recently turned 21, is having a fine season in League One with Plymouth Argyle, scoring 16 goals in 24 games so far as his side look to stay in the hunt for a Play-Off place.

The young Wales international is flourishing under former Owl, Ryan Lowe, and is building on his impressive start to 2020 as he got seven goals in 14 games prior to the cancellation of the division in March.

Wednesday are reportedly one of several clubs to have shown an interest in landing the young attacker, with the likes of Derby County, Stoke City and Nottingham Forest all said to be keeping a very close eye on him.

But if Lowe’s comments from last month are anything to go by, then any club wanting to sign the youngster will need to stump up a few million quid in order to do so.

He told the Plymouth Herald not long ago, “Anyone who rings up about Luke, the phone will be getting put down because we don’t need to sell.

“If they want to ring at the end of the season after he’s scored 25 goals it will probably cost them £3.5 million.

“It’s whether anyone has got £3.5 million at the moment. Honestly, we’re not even looking into that, we haven’t even thought of it.”

So while Jephcott – a Welsh U19 and U21 international – will be focused on trying to add more goals to his tally for the Pilgrims, clubs will be very aware of the fact that his price will go up the more he scores.

Wednesday haven’t spent more than £1m on a player since the 2017/18 season, but with Jephcott’s age and ability in front of goal then he may well be the sort of player they’d be willing to fork out for – however the current climate hasn’t seen too many clubs splashing the cash amid the English Football League’s revenue crisis.

Whatever happens, the forward remains in demand – and as long as his current form continues then his list of admirers will keep growing.
