Viewers of last night’s 999: What’s Your Emergency?, which focuses on the work of South Yorkshire Police, saw officers attending to an incident where two men had suffered serious injuries after being attacked in a terraced street.

The incident, filmed for the Channel 4 early last year, revealed that the pair had come to an address in Doncaster to sell a valuable painting to people they had met via Facebook.

But on arrival, the pair had been set on by a gang of teenagers armed with a machete, clubs and a screwdriver as the group attempted to steal the picture.

The show revealed that one man had suffered a gash to his face and slash wounds to his leg, while the other suffered a stab wound to his head after being set upon by the gang, who police say were aged between 14 and 17.

Pc Simon Lindley, one of the officers called to deal with the incident, told viewers how he had been left soaked in the victims’ blood, with pools of blood also clearly visible in the street following the brutal attack.

CCTV footage taken from a neighbour’s house revealed the gang swarming around a silver car as they carried out their attack, armed with coshes.

However, at the end of the programme, it was revealed that the pair who were attacked were unwilling to provide statements about the incident and police were unable to progress the case.
