We tried out a caravan holiday in coastal Wales and this is what we thought

Having never visited Wales before, when give the opportunity for a four night stay at Aber Bay caravan park, just a short walk from Aberystwyth, I jumped at the chance.

Travelling by train from Doncaster it was a journey of some five and a half hours but myself and partner both felt like it flew by. With short stops in Birmingham and Shrewsbury it gave us chance to stretch our legs, and we were in Aberystwyth by teatime - a local taxi to the site cost around £10 – not bad at all.

First of all I must mention the people we met, from the taxi driver, to the park staff, everyone was so pleasant and inviting. I don’t know if it’s their accent, but our first impressions were more than favourable.

Having arrived as the reception had just closed, it was thanks to the manager that we managed to get into our mobile home for the week but not before he had treated us to a free pint, G&T and a chat about was on offer on and off the caravan park.

Our caravan was 6-berth and had absolutely everything in it you could wish for – a shower/toilet room with lovely complementary cleansing goodies included, a separate ensuite toilet off the main double bedroom, a twin bedroom, all with adequate storage space.

The kitchen space was superb with all the mod cons and had it all, even down to every single kitchen utensil you could possibly need, and an ample dining area.

The living area was spacious and comfortable with a fab TV with all the channels (if you go on holiday to watch TV), there was even French doors leading to a little seating area with table and chairs outside, where you could see the sea.

We wandered up to the clubhouse which was recently refurbished and is a great venue, open to members of the public as well as home owners and renters. A tasty menu is availabe offering breakfast, snacks and main meals, and a huge bar area with luxurious seating, some overooking the beautiful bay.

Facilities include darts, pool, air hockey, kiddies games, entertainment such as bingo and karaoke, giant TV screens – when we went they were gearing up for the World Cup and you wouldn’t have missed a minute of the action, and there is even a section for dog walkers.

There is also a brand-new luxury heated indoor swimming pool - this is the perfect way to let the kids burn off some of that boundless energy – I took advantage of that being a big kid myself, the only downside being there must be two adults using the facility at the same time, so no solo swimming.

Aber Bay Holiday Park (formerly known as Glan-Y-Mor) is perfect for a family-friendly caravan holiday in Wales.
