“We want to promote the industry as much as we possibly can,” the Michelin Guide team said, explaining their decision to publish a 2021 edition of the gastronomic bible.
“We all have memories of great meals, of favourite restaurants, of nights out with friends. Restaurants will not be closed forever and someday soon we will be able to start making plans.
"We will have birthdays and anniversaries to celebrate; family to meet; dates to go on – and for all these things and more we will choose restaurants. The world of hospitality is embedded in our culture and will soon be part of our everyday lives once again.”
Work on this year’s guide started in August 2019 and was largely complete when the first national lockdown began in March 2020, they said.
While the quest for a new Michelin star in Sheffield goes on, a number of restaurants in and around the city are recommended – find out which ones made the grade below.

9. Brocco Kitchen
Brocco Kitchen, part of boutique hotel Brocco on the Park at Hunters Bar, is praised for being bright and laid-back. "The well-priced menu comprises a selection of small plates listed under the headings ‘The Hunter’, ‘The Fisher’ and ‘The Gardener’ – and these include some great salads," the Michelin Guide says. 10. Rafters
Rafters, on Oakbrook Road in Nether Green, is rightly described by the guide as a 'long-standing city institution'. "Refined cooking sees well-judged flavour combinations presented in an attractive manner," the authors say. Photo: Scott Merrylees

11. Juke + Loe
Juke + Loe on Ecclesall Road is run by brothers Joseph and Luke Grayson. "Seasonal cooking mixes the traditional with the modern and every dish is equally appealing; preparation is skilful and flavours are big and bold," the Michelin Guide says. Photo: Google

12. The Old Vicarage
From 1998 to 2015, Tessa Bramley's The Old Vicarage held the distinction of being Sheffield's only Michelin-starred restaurant, although it is actually just outside the city boundary and officially lies in Derbyshire. "Two fixed price menus offer sophisticated dishes with assured flavours and subtle modern influences; the ‘Prestige’ best showcases the chef’s abilities," the Michelin Guide says.
