Bakewell, Castleton or Hathersage are always worth a visit and are among the most popular Peak District destinations for day trips, but if you’ve already been, or feel they might be a bit crammed on a bank holiday, then it’s time to find somewhere a bit more off the beaten track.
There are many lesser-known Peak District beauty spots that are well worth a visit as well, where the views are just as stunning, the ice cream is just as good, and are still just a short drive or bus ride away.
Take a look through our gallery below to find your next Peak District destination, with many not a long way from Sheffield.

5. Pilsley
Many people may have visited Pilsley without knowing it - it's on the Chatsworth Estate and is the location of the Chatsworth Farm Shop. Estate workers live here in cottages and the village green normally hosts an annual fete. | Jason Chadwick Photo: Jason Chadwick

6. Monyash
Monyash can be found at the head of Lathkill Dale surrounded by beautiful scenery. A village green, with what is left of an old market cross, forms its centre. | Anne Shelley Photo: Anne Shelley

7. Fenny Bentley
Fenny Bentley is in the southern part of the Peak Park, two miles north of Ashbourne. The church of St Edmund has an unusual monument to Thomas and Agnes Beresford who, together with their 21 children, are shown covered in a shroud. There are pubs, too - The Coach and Horses and the Bentley Brook Inn. | Jason Chadwick Photo: Jason Chadwick

8. Tideswell
Tideswell near Buxton is one of the Peak District's bigger villages. It is home to the church of St John the Baptist, known as the 'Cathedral of the Peak' - this was built entirely in the 14th century. | Jason Chadwick Photo: Jason Chadwick
