Second half goals by Viktor Gyökeres and Jamie Allen brought an abrupt end to the Owls’ three-game winning streak in the Championship on a miserable night in the West Midlands.

The defeat is a huge blow in Wednesday’s battle to beat the drop and means Neil Thompson’s men are still second-from-bottom ahead of a hectic schedule in the coming weeks which will ultimately define their season.

On Twitter, our Wednesday correspondent Joe Crann simply wrote: “#SWFC have deserved absolutely nothing from this.”

And Wednesdayites, also on social media, aren’t holding back in their criticism following tonight’s lacklustre loss.

Let’s take a look at what they’re saying.

@HarryJM01 No manager is going to get a tune out of these players, they are all completely dreadful

@Oxley_Swfc The man for the job is out there and you’re throwing ‘end of the season’ contracts at him. Couldn’t run a bath never mind a football club. Give him what he wants and let him prepare for League One while he can, this team isn’t good enough to stay up

@footballtyper Tonight we lacked the positivity that we've shown in our play recently. It all seemed very disjointed. At times, outfought. In our situation, we have to have more about us consistently. We have to win our battles and show that fighting spirit

@Dastardly_Mutt The lack of quality and the unevenness of this squad has been evident for best part of two or three seasons. Trying to win football matches without strikers is impossible. Problems over the pitch but If there is no strikers coming in we’re doomed

@DanKris1985 No effort, second to every ball, negative lineup, outfought and comfortably beaten all over the park. We had of all of January to sign a striker and appoint a manager... We failed miserably on both counts and we will now pay the ultimate price with relegation.

@chris_brookes The players can give it their best each game, Neil Thompson or whoever else can keep giving their all in the meantime, but the set-up’s a mess. Signing players without a manager sums it up. It only breeds disillusionment and a lack of structure and understanding

@Justom29 We couldn't hit a barn door with a beach ball

@LewisHastie Hardly any shots on goal from the #swfc in a feeble away defeat. So few goals this season. It’s a joke that we have an £8 million striker in the squad who once scored 36 league goals in a season including six hat-tricks and isn’t getting a game

@danadzjones90 Seriously what happened to players wearing the shirt with pride and fighting for themselves and for the fans?

@doogleberry11 There really is no hope is there? No disrespect to Coventry, if we were to have any chance of staying up we HAVE to beat teams like them. No ifs or buts.
