Staff praised at South Yorkshire vaccination centre where Pfizer jabs were destroyed

Around 450 doses of the Pfizer jab were binned after a fridge at the Montgomery Hall vaccination centre in Wath-upon-Dearne, Rotherham, was mistakenly switched off one night last month.

Ninety vials of the vaccine – each containing up to five doses – were destroyed.

Vaccine supplies were diverted from other centres so that all patients who were due to receive their first jab at the site could still get vaccinated.

John Healey, MP for Wentworth and Dearne, praised the efforts of staff at the centre, who have vaccinated more than 8,000 people.

He said: “I understand more than 8,000 people have been vaccinated at Montgomery Hall and not a single appointment has been cancelled – despite flooding in the area and two days of bad snow.

“Our NHS in Rotherham is well on track to vaccinate the top four national priority groups by the February 15 deadline and this is down to NHS staff working together in what has been a huge effort.

“I’ve been at the Wath vaccination centre myself and volunteered at others in the area, and have seen first-hand the incredible commitment shown by NHS staff delivering the vaccine programme, who are working seven days a week on top of their day jobs.

“I have nothing but praise for what they’re doing and from what I’ve heard from local residents, they feel the same.”
