Stabbing victim still critical one week after attack outside Sheffield mosque

A man left fighting for life in a stabbing outside a Sheffield mosque remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition today.

The 35-year-old was knifed close to the Markazi Jamia Masjid mosque on Industry Road, Darnall, at around 3.30pm on Saturday, January 30.

He was given emergency first aid by those at the mosque until medics arrived and transferred him to hospital.

A 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder was later released under investigation after police questioning.

The attacker is believed to have been driving a black Nissan Qashqai which was then driven to Whitby Road, close to Fisher Lane, where attempts were made to torch it.

Witnesses to the stabbing or anyone with information about the incident or subsequent arson attack should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 606 of January 30.
