Yorkshire doubles title for Hague and Cole

Doncaster club coach Mick Hague teamed up with club-mate Dave Cole to net the Yorkshire LTA Vets Over-45s men’s doubles title.

The two men put home advantage to good use to beat No 2 seeds Simon Groom and Jamie Gibson 6-3 6-4 in the final.

Fellow Doncaster pairing Rick Moglia and Ged Salisbury were beaten by top seeds Charles Fulcher and Paul Hammond on a tie-break in their quarter-final clash.

Hague, seeded four, also finished third in the singles.

Wheatley Hills’ club coach Myles Collett, seeded three, was beaten fifth seed Fulcher (6-4,7-6) in the quarter-final.

Cole and John Sculthorpe (Wheatley Hills) both suffered second round defeats.

Cole lost 6-0, 6-2 against Keith James, seeded eight, with Sculthorpe going down against top seed and eventual winner John Ranson (6-1, 6-1).

Doncaster’s Wimbledon line judge, Andrew McDougall, and Peter Vann (Huddersfield), were beaten on a tie-break by top seeds Michael Breslin and James Brown in the men’s over-55s doubles.

McDougall lost out to Breslin on a tie-break in the semi-finals of the singles.

Doncaster’s Jayne Hale and Rosie Crowley (Wheatley Hills) reached the ladies’ Over-45s doubles final, but picked up just two games in a straight sets defeat against top seeds Ann Brown and Margaret Fincham.

Joint Doncaster club coach Liz Beaton and club-mate Sarah Bayliss also lost out to the winners in similar style in the semi-finals.

Hale was beaten 6-0, 6-1 by eventual winner Brown in the semi-finals of the singles.
