Yorkshire and Derbyshire League: Holmesfield remain unbeaten after beating Totley

Yorkshire and Derbyshire Division One heavyweights Holmesfield remain unbeaten after racking up 233-7 (N Pearson 66* J Pearson 51) against Totley Sports who were dismissed for 125 (D Ward 4-35).

They are level with Hollinsend Meths at the top of the table. Hollinsend were bowled out for 120 (K O’Sullivan 4-24) by De La Salle and, at 53-1, the Sallians had the game in the bag.

But a spectacular collapse saw them crumple to 101 all out. Sheffield University Staff reached 213 (C Pandya 59 N Kadyan 64 T Wellman 5-38), then skipper Mayank Sharma bowled beautifully, returning impressive figures of 8-38 to send back Sheffield Collegiate VP for 177 (J White 52).

Sheffield Civil Service were 154 all out (S Frier 52), but in turn dismissed Hathersage for 103 (L Hobbs 6-32). Stocksbridge’s sorry start to the season continues, this time being bowled out for 102 (W Hughes 40 D Nelis 4-36). Champions Parkhead duly cantered to 103-2 (J Carrington 61). Parkhead are closing in on the leaders and alongside Holmesfield, are the only teams unbeaten in Division One.

Division Two pace setters TRS only mustered 107 all out against Calver. However, Abdul Rehman took a hat-trick in figures of 4-14 to send Calver crashing to just 48 all out.

Hollinsend Meths II made 190 (J Hill 52 J Hotchin 48), but Sheffield Centralians eased to the win by six wickets, thanks to Mason Denning hitting a magnificent 111 not out.

Cents and Hallam III are in hot pursuit of TRS, Hallam III were all out for 117 against Totley Bent, but then shot them down for 66 (Graham 5-12). Parkhead II managed only 99 against Sheffield Medics, who went to the win by six wickets. Ashford in the Water were bundled out for a meagre 67 (J Stenton 5-18), Hundall lost two wickets in a successful run chase and a move up towards the top of the table.

In Division Three, Grindleford made 128 all out (J Steer 59) in their game with the leaders Bakewell, who went to victory by eight wickets (L Tann 45 D Hadfield 46*).

Just behind are Hallam III. They bowled out Youlgrave Lodge 73 (R Oates 4-29) and duly cruised to a ten wicket win (J Ferguson 47*). De La Salle II made a useful 174 before being bowled out (R Bulmer 76). Sheffield Transport were sent back for 76 to move De La Salle up to third.

The backbone of Ridgeway’s 183 was a wonderful innings by Adam Gibson, who hit 120 (A Wood 4-26). However, he still ended on the losing side, as Coal Aston III strolled to the win by eight wickets (P Cookson 52* H Denton 66*).

The early pacesetters in Division Four are Whittington Wanderers. Nathan Buck (4-26) and David Whiteley (4-3) combined to bowl out Norton Woodseats II for 54 as they strode to a six wicket win. It was a bad day for second placed Chesterfield III. They restricted Dronfield Woodhouse to just 129, with J Wilson hitting 46, but eventually fell themselves for just 78 (Z Collins 4-5).

Richmond remain in the mix with victory at home to Sheffield Civil Service II. They posted 172ao (S Burton 33 R Wyse 50 C Biggin 3-33 R Joyce 3-45) and managed to send back the Servants for just 58 (N Penfold 3-22 C Turner 3-3). Wayne Shore (5-30) sent back Telecom Sports II for just 72 as Walkley gained a five wicket win at 73-5. Sheffield Centralians II were dismissed for just 49 as Sheffield University Staff II gained a six wicket win.

Early Division Five leaders Hallam V came a cropper against newcomers Sheffield Superkings. The visitors spanked 118 all out (Bala 49) as Hallam crumbled to 81ao. In pursuit are Hollinsend Meths III. They hit up 217-9 (D Royal 82) as Coal Aston IV managed 144-9 in reply. Just below the top two are Hathersage II, who restricted Chesterfield Barbarians III to 145-5 (Denby 49 Galley 45no) as ‘Sage replied with 149-5.

Ash Mellor claimed 4-10 as Sheffield Transport II were dismissed for 40, and Whittington Wanderers II romped to an eight wicket win.
