Yorkshire and Derbyshire League: Adam Burkinshaw leads by example as holders Parkhead battle through to Premier Cup final

At Hathersage's pretty ground on Baulk Lane, defending Brian Winston Premier Cup winners Parkhead stroked their way to a formidable 260-8 from their allotted 40 overs. Skipper and opening batsman Adam Burkinshaw smashed a wonderful 155, which utterly dominated the Parkhead innings.

Hathersage replied gamely, but ended well short at 195-7 (R Mohammadullah 56). Parkhead will meet local rivals De La Salle on finals day on September 10, after De La Salle made 172-9 (S Wainwright 52) and dismissed Hollinsend Methodists for 136.

In the Percy Crookes Senior Cup, Division Two leaders TRS hit up 206-7 (S Gujar 65). However, Division Three promotion hopefuls Telecom Sports chased hard, only to fall just four runs shy to be 202 all out (J Hague 89 A Khan4-25). TRS will meet Ashford in the Water in the finals.

Top teams faced bottom ones in the Intermediate Cup, with relegation-threatened Sheffield Civil Service II being bowled out for 117 (Cowan 4-22) by Richmond, whose stand-in wicketkeeper Mike Rose snaffled six catches behind the sticks before his team cantered to a comfortable nine wicket win.

In an upset to the form book, Chesterfield III, after making 155 all out (R Hiron 90 A Rhodes 4-19), sent back promotion seeking Whittington Wanderers for 134 to set up a final appearance against Richmond in September.

In the Junior Cup, Division Five leaders Sheffield Super Kings posted 160 all out (A Radhakrishnan 57 B Varatharajan 40) and then rolled over Sheffield Collegiate YDL II for 110 (H Gunasekaran 5-26).

Division Four team Telecom Sports II reached 147, but Hallam V from Division Five battle their way to the win by three wickets to meet Super Kings in the final.

In the day’s league matches, Division Two bottom team Parkhead II were sent back for 129 (H Vinall 49). Totley Bent’s five wicket win (Ajmal 51*) takes the team into the promotion positions.

It was a mid-table tussle in Division Three, with Sheffield Transport reaching 184 before being bowled out by Ridgeway (J Slack 48* K Roberts 4-43). In their innings, Ridgeway were in turn sent back for 132 (G Lewis 4-52).

On Sunday, in the Division Four game between Norton Woodseats II and Walkley, Norton were sent back into the hutch for 123 (B Yardley 5-28), but then rolled over Walkley for 117 as Daniel Turner returned the remarkable figures of 6-4. Despite this, Walkley remain in a promotion spot.
