Wait and see for Compton

TIGERS are waiting to hear back whether skipper Andre Compton can make the trip to the Isle of Wight tomorrow.

Compton was involved in a horror crash with Henning Bager and James Cockle in Thursday's win over Birmingham and was fortunate to escape serious injury.

He's spent the weekend resting and a final decision is expected tonight - if he is unfit the Owlerton club will call on their own asset Lee Complin for a guest booking.

They've already booked Birmingham's popular Australian Ben Powell as a replacement for James Birkinshaw, who drops down to reserve in the new set of September team stats.

Co-promoter David Hoggart said: "It's a case of wait and see with Andre.

"It was a bad crash and we were all relieved when there was nothing series in terms of damage to the rider and naturally we want both Andre and James back as quickly as possible.

"Ben Powell is a good rider who always gives his best and he's become a firm favourite with supporters down at Birmingham, because of his all-action style.

"He was happy to hear from us and readily accepted the opportunity to take a guest booking for us. I'm sure he will give as much effort for us as he does for Birmingham.

"The play-off picture is interesting. Workington's win over King's Lynn was a good result for them and Somerset beat the Islanders on Friday - we're still in with a chance but it will be tough."
