Virgin weigh up Jerome future

IS JEROME D’Ambrosio on his way out of Marussia Virgin Racing?

Speculation is growing among the Formula One fraternity suggesting the Belgian racer will be axed by the Dinnington-based team after the final Grand Prix of the season in Brazil on November 27.

Talk is swirling around the paddock Team Lotus are considering whether to draft in D’Ambrosio at the expense of Jarno Trulli, who has under-performed in 2011.

John Booth and Graeme Lowdon, the top bosses at Virgin, are currently running the rule over Adrian Quaife-Hobbs, Charles Pic and reserve driver Robert Wickens in the Young Driver Test at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. It is understood Pic, who finished fourth overall in the GP2 Series Championship, is in pole position to take over from D’Ambrosio.

If Virgin opt to dispense with D’Ambrosio’s services, it would be the second consecutive year the fledgling F1 outfit have altered their driver line-up. While Timo Glock has remained the lead driver, D’Ambrosio replaced another rookie, Lucas di Grassi, in the second race seat.
