Vet Martin leads the way

Martin Broadhead (Hallam-shire) won the Bridlington Half Marathon in impressive style. The Hallamshire man had almost a minute to spare over consistent Punlani Bangani, the Scunthorpe based runner who won the race last year.

Broadbent's win was remarkable as he is a veteran in athletic terms and took the Yorkshire Half-marathon championship which was incorporated in the race..

1 M Broadhead (Hallamshire) 71:09; 2 P Bangani (Salford) 72:04; 3 P Marchant (Rothwell) 72:38. Women: 1 A Oultram (Bingley) 81:07; 2 K Nelson (Knavesmire) 82:51; 3 D Broom (Holmfirth) 87:34.

Damien Nicholls (Wilmslow) was an easy winner of the Rother Valley Trail six-mile race at Rother Valley Country Park.

There was a superb run from Hallamshire's Carol Wolsten holme to take the women's award.

Wolstenholme, aged 61, a world-class veteran runner, finished 30th overall in the field of 112 finishers in a time of 42:19.

1 D Nicholls (Wilmslow) 33:26; 2 M Reid (City of Sheffield) 33:54; 3 G Turner (Hallamshire) 34:11. Women: 1 C Wolstenholme (Hallamshire) 42:19; 2 H Brown (Totley) 44:19; 3 N Wright (North Derby RC) 46:06.
