Sheffield’s GB womens team captain Vicky Brown. She won the prestigious Christine Ellis memorial trophy at Wednesfield’s Ashmore Park circuit in emphatic style.

Brown won her four qualifying races with ease.

She then sailed through her semi-final race with another accomplished win.

And she sped away from the start line in the final and was a comfortable 10 metres clear at the finish line.

The Sheffield/Wosskow Brown Stars enjoyed a winning debut to their Elite League racing at Cookson Park, maintaining their unbeaten start to the season. Sheffield had too much firepower for visiors Poole Comets, winning 94-78.

Stars usual home base is the Graves centre, but this is unavailable due to building work.

Pawel Idziorek continued his sensational start to the season, with his fourth successive maximum score (two for Sheffield and two for parent club Heckmondwike).

He also gained the match race title, with a stunning win over Poole’s top scorer Aaron Morgan.

The Stars next Elite match, in two weeks time, will see them up against the Wednesfield Aces, who are the early season pacesetters and title favourites.

Sheffield scorers: Pawel Idziorek 19+1, Damian Zareba 16+2, Gavin Parr 13+2, Mike Grimes 12+2, Andy Angell 11+1, Richard Hudson 11+1, Mikey Hewitson 9+1, Adam Watson 3.

Sheffield could not make it a double win, the Combination team losing to a last race decider by 62-68.

Kyle Holland made a welcome return to the team with his customary all action performance, including two race wins. There were also race wins for Richard Hudson (1) and Adam Watson (1).

Tomorrow Sheffield will compete in the U-19 club final at Newport, facing opponents from Ipswich, East Park, Wednesfield, Exeter and Poole, in the British Club Championships.

Northern League action returns on Sunday with Rockets visiting Bury for matches in Leagues 1 & 2, plus the under 13 league 3.
