Track queen backs plea for Sudan appeal

Sheffield's European 800m bronze-medallist, Becky Lyne and distance runner, Phil Tulba are on the lookout for a sponsor to cover the postage costs of their 'Kit for Sudan' appeal.

The pair hope to send out a batch of used running apparel to underprivileged children.

The campaign is the brainchild of Lyne and Basingstoke's Tulba; who formed a plan to make a difference in the war-torn nation whilst living together at Loughborough University in 2005.

The duo decided to start a kit collection and approached fellow Loughborough athletes for any spare belongings.

"We had an overwhelming response," revealed 25 year-old Lyne on the first consignment of approximately 30 kilos.

Tulba, 34 and of half-Sudanese descent, travels out to Sudan each Christmas and explained, "The recipients are 10-20 year-olds who train in Khartoum. Some of the youngsters have won World Youth Championship medals, despite running barefoot."
