Titans battle to win back respect

ROTHERHAM Titans are in danger of losing their credibility, coach Phil Werahiko has warned ahead of tomorrow's game at Clifton Lane against Esher, the struggling Surrey club now coached by former Roth hero Mike Schmid.

"We must put the wrongs right and get back to making the right decisions and show that we are capable of getting the respect back," said Werahiko in the wake of Saturday's defeat at Coventry.

He has made four changes to the team to take on Esher, who've won only once in five matches in their first season in National One.

The most startling is the selection of flanker Rob Connolly to play in the centre.

The Irishman, signed from the Dublin club Greystones, turned out in the centre on Monday night against Newcastle Falcons' A side and looked the part.

"I know this is an experiment but Rob is solid defensively, he's a good reader of the game and is able going forward. We've been a bit lightweight in the centre so far and I think Connolly and Mark Lawson will combine well," explained Werahiko.

One of the other major changes sees the return of scrum-half Chris Hallam at the expense of Ronan Dillon.

In the pack, flanker Alex Dunlop comes back into the team to replace the injured Barry Jacobsz whose damaged ankle will prevent playing for the next two weeks.

Lock James Waterhouse, who made his debut at Coventry, retains his place and will benefit again from playing alongside the experienced Louis McGowan.

Rotherham urgently need to get their act together, and, with home advantage, should be able to earn their third win in six games.

But Rotherham should be aware that Schmid's team have never been thrashed, so a Titans win is not a foregone conclusion.
