Sheffield’s Jonny Marray and doubles partner Colin Fleming are today aiming for the semi-finals of the Barcelona Open after a superb win yesterday.
The pair beat fourth seeds Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer 6-4 2-6 10-6 to set up a last eight tie against Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares in the ATP 500 Series event.
Marray and Fleming had lost to Qureshi and Rojer last week at the Monte-Carlo Masters but their revenge was swift.
The victory means they’ll pick up at least 90 ranking points in their quest to reach the ATP World Finals in London in November.
Marray, aged 32, told The Star the standard of play on the doubles Tour is very high: “Anyone can beat anyone in the doubles matches on Tour, but if we keep putting the performances in then we’ll get our fair share of good results.”
