Tennis: Jonny misses out on Novak semi-final

Have your say

Sheffield’s Jonny Marray and doubles partner Colin Fleming have turned their attentions to next week’s Masters Series tournament in Shanghai after losing in the quarter-finals of the China Open yesterday.

Marray and Fleming were beaten in straight sets by Max Mirnyi and Horia Tacau 6-4 7-6(3), who will now go on to play the World No 1 Novak Djokovic and his doubles partner for the week, Stanislas Wawrinka.

The British duo had led 5-2 in the second set before allowing their opponents to break back twice and seal victory in a one-side tie-break.

The defeat at Beijing’s Olympic Tennis Centre virtually ends any hope of the pair reaching the ATP Tour Finals in London later this year for the top eight doubles teams of the season.
