ROTHERHAM’S Joe Roebuck has swimming superstars Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte in his sights at this summer’s London Olympics.
Roebuck had already qualified in the 400m medley and 200m butterfly at the British Swimming Championship.
But a storming gold medal swim in the 200m medley secured another spot and carved more than a tenth of a second off his personal best.
He said: “Phelps and Lochte are ahead of the world but the race for bronze is very open and it’s between seven or eight guys and I’m one of them for sure.”
Ellie Faulkner, who has already secured a 4x200m relay place, looks well placed to earn an individual spot in tonight’s 800m freestyle final.
City of Sheffield team-mate Becky Turner, who is already in the Olympic 200m freestyle competition, earned a relay spot in the 100m after just missing out in the indivdual race. Turner finished third in the final with only the top two qualifying.
