Gala day as Dartes aces strike gold

DONCASTER Dartes swimmers enjoyed a successful time at the Kingston-upon-Hull Gala.

Mark Beech touched home in first place in the boys’ 100m backstroke.

The outstanding swim of the day was produced by gold medallist Lauren Jarvis in the 200m freestyle heats. She finished two lengths in front of her nearest rival as she posted a new personal best time. She finished second in the 11-year- old Top Girl competition.

Caitlin Feirn impressed with a time of 2 minutes 50.32 seconds when making one of her first appearances in the 200m backstroke. Teammate Katie Pendlebury excelled with a time of 2.43.77. There were also solid performances by Leanne Davis and Beth Reddy on the opening day of the two-day event.

George Scatchard produced a great swim when winning the 200m backstroke in convincing style. The Doncaster youngster finished the top boy in the 12-13-year age group.

Yorkshire 50m champion Joseph Gatus, now successfully now trying his hand at the 100 metres and the 200m medley, finished top boy in the 11 year old category with Beech claiming second and Oswald Hood fourth.

Lily Metcalfe knocked nine seconds off her best in the heats of the 100m butterfly. Laura Brookes and Finleigh Dukes also posted new best times in the heats of the 100m butterfly and the 100m breaststroke.

Robert Kirk saw Dartes end the gala on a high note when collecting a bronze in the 50m butterfly.
