DONCASTER Dartes struck gold in the first of this season’s Yorkshire Championships.

The club picked up no fewer than six golds as well as bagging four silver and three bronze.

Star swimmer Max Litchfield (17) grabbed himself two gold medals in 200m breaststroke and 200m backstroke. He also picked up a silver in 200m butterfly.

Younger brother Joe (13) picked up a gold in the 100m breaststroke, silvers in the 200m individual medley and 100m butterfly and a bronze in the 400m freestyle.

Shannon Dodson, aged 14, touched home in first-place in the 100m and 200m backstroke finals.

Gill Clarke, nine, one of the club’s younger swimmers, also picked up a gold in 200m backstroke.

Gill’s older brother Jamie, 15, finished in the silver medal position in the 200m backstroke.

Bronze medals were won by George Scatchard, 14, in the same event as Jamie and Chantelle Waugh, nine, in the 200m butterfly.

Shannon Dodson (200m individual medley), 13-year-old newcomer Georgia Wright (200m backstroke), 13-year-old Alex Pollard (100m butterfly and 200 freestyle) and 17-year-old Sophie Coy (100m breastroke) all just finished outside the medals in fourth place in their respective events.

“The outstanding performer for me in the boys’ events was Alex Pollard with a range of personal best swims showing a controlled stroke with ever improving technique and a high quality of skills,” said Dartes’ head coach Andy Wallace.

“Alex was not afraid to push the underwater work and narrowly missed out on a couple of medals by mere fractions of a second. Impressive stuff considering he has only just moved into the 13-year age group. “

“Joe Litchfield also add his customary medal haul with four in total 1 gold, 2 silvers and a bronze.
