DAVID Sutton of Swinton, headed the South Yorkshire challenge at the annual British Kartmasters Grand Prix at Trent Valley track, near Newark.

He was runner-up in the Super Libre race and took the Driver of the Event award after starting third, dropping to fifth in an opening melee and then battling his way back to finish second.

Barnsley's Stephen Cobb was runner-up in the Rotax 177 race after starting sixth, and Doncaster's Chris Pinkney was fourth thanks to an object lesson in overtaking as he moved up from being 22nd at the start.

Doncaster's Bill Cowley began the Mini Max race from third and ended second.

Sheffield's Oliver Rowland was favourite for the Junior ICA race, but dangerous driving in an earlier race caused him to be excluded from starting. The honours almost went to Doncaster's James Godbehere instead. He moved up from sixth and led going into the final lap but finished second.
