Sheffield United have been awarded Team of the Year at tonight's Star Football Awards.
The award was presented by Vine Hotels group leisure and spa manager Dan Beech, along with the Lord Mayor of Sheffield and Lord Mayor’s Consort, Denise and Terry Fox.
As with the Manager of the Year award, the prize again came down to a pair of contenders: the two promotion winners among our six clubs.
Both barely looked back as the swept through their respective divisions and cruised to promotion.
And it is the sheer relentless of Sheffield United which saw them come out on top.
Once United found their groove at the end of August last year, they powered on.
Playing an entertaining brand of football, they swept aside all comers, seeing them secure promotion and be crowned champions in the space of a week.
And while United could have been forgiven for downing tools after achieving those goals, they have kept going and are one win away from achieving the rare feat of picking up 100 points in a season.
As a unit, they have simply been unstoppable.
Performances as much as results have galvanised supporters and there is a renewed togetherness at the club.
This year may have been long-awaited, but this team has ensured it has been worth waiting for.
