World number two Nick Matthew has booked his place in the semi-finals of the Allam British Open after a comprehensive victory over Mathieu Castagnet.

The Sheffield star, a three-time world champion, beat the Frenchman 11-7 11-7 11-7 in a contest which lasted 50 minutes at Hull’s Airco Arena this afternoon.

Matthew, the third seed, recovered from slow starts in each game to hit back and keep his hopes alive of a fourth British Open title. The 34-year-old faces either top seed Mohamed Elshorbagy or Simon Rosner in the last four of the tournament tomorrow.
