DAVID Hoggart believes National league racing will help Jake Knight make progress this season.
Knight is facing up to his first year of Premier League racing after impressing the club with his attitude in occasional outings in 2012.
The 20-year-old will also ride for his local club King’s Lynn in the National League and that means he could race up to 20 meetings for the Norfolk outfit to supplement his Tigers schedule.
Sheffield boss Hoggart commented: “Jake needs to ride as much as possible, I would suggest, so the fact that he will be with King’s Lynn in the National League is a real bonus for the lad.
“Obviously it is going to be tough for Jake at the start of the season because there is a massive gap between National League and Premier League but he is a determined young man who wants to make it happen.
“The National league schedule works nicely with our fixtures and I am quite sure he will benefit from riding at that level.
“We have already gone on record to say we will do everything we can to support Jake and we want him to succeed.
“We are not expecting anything big in the early stages and he will have good people around him.
“We have made him welcome here at the club and I know all the boys are looking forward to getting together on Thursday for our press and practice session.
“They all want to get some laps under their belt and hopefully the weather will stay fine for them to do that.”
The Tigers’ team will be presented with their 2013 race jackets at 5pm, in the Panorama Room and will then take to the track around 5.30pm.
