Upbeat Tigers seek tonic after Birmingham loss

Birmingham 54 Sheffield Tigers 38

TIGERS head into tonight's mouthwatering Premier League clash with Edinburgh at Owlerton looking to bounce back from their defeat at Birmingham.

The defeat ended an impressive winning run for Eric Boocock's side who will be unchanged for the visit of the Premier League title favourites.

Edinburgh have been on a fine run of form and pulled off a stunning win at Newcastle on Sunday - but club owner Neil Machin says his side fear nothing.

He said: "We're in a confident mood around our own track and I have no doubt we can hit back after last night when we were left short in certain areas of the team."

Early race wins for Dakota North and Josef Franc gave Sheffield plenty of confidence as they held the lead after three heats yesterday, but Ricky Ashworth was eased out by Richard Sweetman in Heat 4 as the Brummies scored a 5-1 to go ahead.

Sweetman was joined at the front by Klaus Jakobsen and the Dane was a winner again in Heat 8 as he and Justin Sedgmen banked maximum points again.

Ashworth kept the Tigers in the frame by holding off Aaron Summers in Heat 9 but Sedgmen and Jason Lyons both powered through in the next race to put the home side eight points up.

Franc was nominated for double points in Heat 12 but a fast start from Summers limited Tigers to only a 5-3 race advantage – and then a superb pass by Sweetman on Josh Auty in the next race ensured Birmingham's win.
