Neil Machin is set to make a final decision on the ownership of Sheffield Tigers today.

The long-serving promoter, who put the club up for sale during the summer, has spent the last few days mulling over his options.

It’s believed a consortium of business people have tabled an offer for the Premier League club and current team boss David Hoggart has been involved in the discussions.

Hoggart is keen to stay with the club whoever is in charge as they face the challenge of bouncing back from successive disappointing seasons both on and off the track.

He said: “In an ideal world I would like to stay on board, it’s a great club with fabulous facilities and I believe it’s a sleeping giant right now.

“I can confirm I have been in discussions with Neil and an interested consortium of business people over the last few days and these discussions have been extremely positive.

“It’s not easy for Neil to simply walk away because he’s put 21 years of his life into this club and it’s a major thing for him to deal with.

“People have to understand that a takeover is something which can never happen overnight and I would like to thank the Sheffield fans for their patience.

“I can understand why there has been some anxiety when there has been no news coming from the club but I am hopeful a final conclusion can be reached very shortly.

“As Neil has pointed out, everything is ready to go at Sheffield, we have a very loyal track staff and you can never underestimate that at any speedway club.

“I’m not prepared to discuss the consortium at this stage until a final agreement is reached - if that doesn’t happen then it’s irrelevant.

“Whatever happens, the most important thing for Sheffield supporters to know is that they will have a team to support in 2014.”
