Tigers bosses may quit Owlerton – if the keyboard critics continue to slam the club.

Co-owner Peter Mole felt like walking aways after online criticism of their move to bring in Broc Nicol and Georgie Wood last week.

Ahead of Thursday’s home Cup clash with Scunthorpe, Mole issued some stinging words in response: “The negativity towards us and our new signings suggested to us as a promotion we’ve done all we can, not good enough, time to let someone else take over.

“Speedway needs all the good publicity and positivity it can get, and that can only start from its own fan base. We have a fantastic sport, it’s up to all of us to project this in a positive manner.

“So yes, while we obviously fully appreciate all our fans support, it would be great if we can project this more as a united front, with everyone getting fully behind the club.”

Mole added: “A great deal of work has gone into making these team changes possible, particularly the paperwork involved in work permits and such like, and a fair amount of financial input” he said.

“We are always looking at the long-term situation as well as short-term benefits.

“We want Sheffield to be successful, just as fans do, but it is our remit to ensure it is sustainable financially.

“We feel these team changes fit both those requirements.

“Once announced there was, in my opinion, too much negativity and displeasure shown by many - often from the same people who were previously clamouring for team changes!

“I can imagine how demoralising this must have been for not only Broc and Georgie to read, but also the other members of the team.”
