Sheffield will head into the Premier League play-offs on the back of a defeat after they went down 49-41 against local rivals Scunthorpe at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
The new-look Tigers slipped to a narrow loss in tricky conditions as they aimed to extend their winning run to six meetings in their final fixture of the regular season.
There were plenty of positives for Jack Lee’s side despite the defeat, particularly an impressive introduction to the No 1 race jacket for Jason Garrity. The all-action reeled off three race wins including a brave outside blast to hit the front in heat five before a composed triumph in the final race.
He was joined at the front in heat 15 by flying Frenchman David Bellego, who battled from the back to end a superb afternoon in fine style as he continued his recent upturn in form.
Likeable Italian Paco Castagna partnered Bellego to a heat 12 maximum which briefly gave the Tigers hope of a late comeback
They will now prepare to try to bring the Premier League title back to the city for the first time since 2002 with the play-offs beckoning.
