RICKY Ashworth is the name on everybody’s lips according to Sheffield owner Neil Machin ahead of his return to Owlerton tonight (7.45pm).
The former Tigers skipper returns to Sheffield for the first time since being told he was surplus to requirements in the winter and leads new club Berwick in a very tasty looking League Cup fixture. And Machin is in no doubt who people will be talking about.
“Of course the name that everyone is mentioning is Ricky Ashworth and he is the big draw,” said Machin.
“It will be the first time Ricky has been to Owlerton as a visitor and I’m sure that he will be eager to get one over us but it’s our job to nick some points from him. We need to make sure that he doesn’t come back and inspire his new team to a win.
“It is a very attractive fixture because Berwick possess some excellent riders. It isn’t just Ricky Ashworth; Lee Complin has had some excellent meetings at Owlerton and Sebastian Alden can be very tasty on his day. And even behind those three, they have some very capable riders who could cause us problems.”
Sheffied are sweating on the fitness of Klaus Jakobsen who has a shoulder injury, while Ricky Wells has declared himself fit for the meeting. Despite an upturn in form over the last few meetings, Machin is still expecting a stern test for his side.
He said: “It is a very tough fixture but I think I’ll be saying that all year to be honest.
“There are no easy meetings in the Premier League and that is why it is such an attraction, because anybody can beat anybody.”
