Nico Covatti is desperate to go racing at Scunthorpe tonight – that’s according to Sheffield co-promoter Peter Mole.
Covatti has been without a British club for six-weeks since the closure of Birmingham and was poised for his Sheffield debut just as the rain washed out last night’s home clash with Edinburgh.
Said Mole: “Nico was gutted, he’s been desperate to race and he was bursting with enthusiasm when he arrived at the stadium. Unfortunately the rain came down and it was the right decision to call the meeting off, but Nico’s disappointment was shared by all of us.
“Hopefully everything will be fine for tonight at Scunthorpe and we will be able to go racing and Nico can show us what he’s all about.”
Mark Lemon, who is the Australian team boss as well as still riding well, has agreed to deputise for Leigh Lanham tonight. Rider replacement will continue to operate for Andre Compton.
Said Mole: “We are grateful to all the guests who help us out and we were grateful to David Bellego who travelled down from Berwick to help us last night only to see the meeting postponed.
“Mark is a great guy and I’m sure he will give his very best for the team, it’s been a nightmare with the injuries but we have to keep on going.”
He added: “It’s hectic for me because I travelled back to the West Midlands after the postponement last night – only to travel back to Scunthorpe tonight!
“But I hope the Sheffield fans can make the trip tonight and we will make an announcement on a new date for the Edinburgh meeting as soon as we can.”
“Damien Bates (co-promoter) is working on it and we should have some news soon.”
