RICKY Ashworth has blamed the new silencers for crashing at Sheffield’s opening night clash with Belle Vue.
The Tigers skipper suffered a badly gashed body. Ashworth’s team-mate Emiliano Sanchez was also a casualty with a shoulder injury which looks like keeping him out of tomorrow’s return Steel Town Trophy clash with the Scorpions at Owlerton.
The new silencers, which were introduced on a worldwide scale in time for the new season, have now been banned in Poland.
Tigers owner Neil Machin said: “Ricky says it was caused by the new silencer causing a momentary loss of power, which straightened the bike up and collected Emiliano, who was on the outside minding his own business.
“I’ve watched the crash several times on video and I agree with Ricky. He was sore but came back at Scunthorpe the next night, but Emiliano was left with severe internal bruising in his shoulder and possible muscle damage.
“He was planning some physio treatment this week but it’s unlikely that he’ll be ready for the return leg against Scunthorpe or Rye House on Saturday.”
If Sanchez fails to make it Tigers will share his rides around his colleagues. Sheffield pulled off a 47-43 first leg win over Scunthorpe.
