Sheffield co-promoter Peter Mole says team changes may be considered - regardless of tonight’s result against league leaders Berwick at Owlerton (7.30pm).

Tigers currently sit bottom of the league after some disappointing, inconsistent displays so far.

Bad luck and frustration struck on the eve of the new season when popular figure Josh Bates suffered a back injury - which now looks set to keep him out until 2019.

But Mole says everyone needs to focus on getting back to winning ways first and foremost, then they have a week gap in their schedule to assess their options.

“Although it is something we have been looking at for some time, it is not easy to make changes,” Mole admitted.

“The problem is that there isn’t exactly a surplus of riders queuing up for team places and we don’t want to make changes just for the sake of change.

“Ideally, it would be nice to strengthen our team, particularly away from home where we have been disappointing, and if possible add to our asset base.

“Speedway is a sport governed by numbers, individual averages and team points limits and it is often not possible to make a straightforward change.

“We will not do anything unless we are sure it is best for our overall team.

“We have a good set of lads here at Sheffield and need to give them all the encouragement possible.

“It is obviously not possible to please all the people all the time.

“However, we are doing what we feel is best for Sheffield Speedway at this stage of our current season.

“We will continue to do what we can behind the scenes and I hope our fans show both patience and support.”

Sheffield are at full strength for tonight’s clash while Berwick include experienced second tier campaigners Aaron Summers, Kevin Doolan and David Howe in their line-up.

SHEFFIELD: Kyle Howarth, Todd Kurtz, Jan Graversen, Lasse Bjerre, Charles Wright, Jack Smith, James Shanes.

BERWICK: Aaron Summers, Jye Etheridge, Kevin Doolan, David Howe, Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen, Theo Pijper, Dany Gappmaier.
