Sheffield new boy Josh Grajczonek has revealed how close friend Kyle Howarth tempted him to Yorkshire.
Grajczonek has put pen to paper with the Tigers for the 2017 campaign and is set to be their new No.1, with previous skipper Simon Stead due to announce his plans for next season this weekend.
The talented Australian lives with the Howarth family during the season and admits the popular Mancunian put in a good word for the Owlerton outfit.
Grajczonek, 26, won the Premier League title with Somerset last season but believes the switch to Sheffield is an “ideal move” ahead of the new SGB Championship season.
“It feels pretty good to sign for Sheffield,” Grajczonek said. “As most people would know, Kyle (Howarth) and myself live together in the UK and his family are like my family.
“They treat me well there, Kyle’s been treated well at Sheffield and we spoke about a move there next year.
“To be fair I love riding the track and it’s only 40 minutes from home so it will cut my travelling down a lot which is great. I’m looking forward to it.
“I get along pretty well with the Bates family. Josh guested a lot for us at Somerset, and he’s always a good laugh along with Kieran and Damien.
“Speedway is a family sport, and if you’re having fun with your job it makes everything a lot much more fun.
“The travelling is a big thing. I clocked up close to 40,000 miles driving all over the UK last season and it wrecked me.
“I like to say I ride big tracks well, without being big headed, so it’s an ideal move for me.
“You always have targets but we don’t like to tell them too often. I’m setting myself up better than ever for next season.
“I’ve started training with Kozza Smith, he’s making me work hard for next year because fatigue let me down in a couple of meetings last year.
“It’s always nice to say we will win this and that but if we just stay focused and go about our business, we have a good enough team to make the play-offs.
“Our team is young and all we want to do is race and win so hopefully we can use that as an advantage.”
