Sheffield Tigers’ injury woes continue

Joe Screen takes charge of Sheffield at Berwick tonight with only three first choice team members in action (7pm).

Josh Bates is the latest casualty after a spectacular spill in Thursday’s home win over Workington – but he has escaped serious injury.

They are without Ty Proctor, Andre Compton and Leigh Lanham with Compton and Lanham hoping to return next week – but Proctor could be a long term problem.

Screen’s side will bring in Aussie duo Justin Sedgmen and Mason Campton as guests for Proctor and Compton at Shielfield Park whilst rider replacement operates for Lanham.

Having seen Ashley Birks and Kevin Wolbert help them to a tremendous win over Workington, Screen knows his patched-up side remain capable of performing well.

He is looking for big performances from his remaining riders whilst hoping some strong showings from their guests can enable them to claim at least a point.

Screen said: “It was a great win for us. It was overshadowed a bit by Josh’s crash though, it was a big impact and we hope he’s going to be OK.

“I’m getting a bit sick of saying it now, but we just don’t seem to be able to get a break at the moment.

“It seems to be one injury after another, and we could definitely do without anyone else being out.

“It’s such a shame to be having so many injuries like this, and we just hope Josh and all the other guys can be back fit and riding again. We’ve just got to take the positives from that when we go up to Berwick.

“It’s going to be hard work with the injury problems we’ve got, but we’ve shown that with the right guests you can do well. Taylor Poole has been flying recently but didn’t have the best of nights on Thursday, so if he performs as he has been recently then we could have a chance.

“Like I say we know it’s obviously going to be tough, but we’ll go there and give it our best shot and hopefully we can come away with something.”
