Josh Bates has fired a warning to Sheffield’s Premier League rivals ahead of the play-offs.
Tigers are on target to secure their place in the end of season shootout for the league title – and Barnsley racer Bates insists Sheffield have what it takes to win it.
Despite numerous injuries throughout the season, plus the loss of Ty Proctor over a visa issue, Sheffield have been able to maintain a competitive edge and the fans have stayed loyal.
“I really think we can win the league,” Bates said “It’s going to be tough, but we’ve been proving all year how well we can do even with the injuries we’ve had, so I don’t see why we can’t keep it going.Beating Edinburgh like we did without Arthur (Sissis) and Jason (Garrity) was a brilliant result, and that gives us a lot of confidence as a team.
“I don’t think many people expected us to win that even though we were at home, but we all worked hard and showed what we are capable of when we all work together. Even against one of the strongest teams in the league and with some of our riders missing we managed to win, so going into the play-offs we have to feel we can beat anybody.
“We might well have some new riders in by then too, so there’s a good chance we’ll be even stronger and in a better position.”
Sheffield return to Owlerton tomorrow when they face Redcar Bears at the start of a hectic spell with the return on Teesside on Friday. They then head to Scunthorpe on Bank Holiday Monday for their final Premier League fixture before the play-offs.
