FORMER Sheffield star Ashley Birks admits it will feel strange returning to Owlerton tomorrow without a Tiger on his race-jacket.
The Sheffield-born youngster, 21, enjoyed an impressive first season in the Premier League last year and many anticipated that he would remain with the Tigers.
But he returned to parent club Scunthorpe and admits it will be a funny experience returning with the visiting club.
He said: “It will be weird coming back as an away rider. I’m just going to try and treat it like a normal meeting and get my head down and make some starts. Obviously I want to score some points.”
Birks insists his move to Scunthorpe was no reflection of his time with Sheffield.
“I enjoyed my spell at Sheffield but Scunthorpe are my parent club. I was going well there in the National League and they put a good deal on the table in the winter. It came down to the fact that I thought I could score more points riding for Scunthorpe.
“I learnt so much last year, we had a good team and all got on well. It was great to ride with someone like Shane Parker and he taught me a lot.
“We’ve got that bit of experience at Scunthorpe with David Howe at number one. Hopefully he’ll be back with us on Thursday.”
