Andre Compton has paid tribute to outgoing Sheffield owner Neil Machin.
The Tigers rider, unveiled as one of the signings for the new season, says Machin can leave Owlerton with his head high after 21 years at the helm. Machin is selling Tigers to a new consortium.
And Compton said: “I don’t really know the people taking over the club because I only came back last season after a few years away from the sport.
“Obviously I know David Hoggart who is fronting it all and he’s a good guy and I was pleased to agree everything with him.
“Neil was always a very fair man and it was actually quite sad to see him so bitter and angry at times last season, after he has put so much into the sport over so many years. So it’s probably good for him to make this move and the club can benefit from some new blood and new enthusiasm.
“But Neil deserves great credit for the way he ran the club.
“He’s had his critics but he ran the club in a very business-like way. Hopefully he will still be around and we can keep in touch.”
A new air barrier is one of club’s priorities.
