Ashley Birks is hitting the best form of his career – and it’s all down to leading a double life!
The Sheffield racer, back with his hometown club for a second spell this year, has just linked up with Elite League Lakeside.
He enjoyed one of the meetings of his life in Monday’s demolition of Wolverhampton. He said: “Riding regularly can only benefit my form for Sheffield, I’m really enjoying it. It’s good to be back in the Elite League, Monday was great and now I just have to keep it going.
“Riding in just the one league means there can be long gaps between fixtures so I was pleased when Lakeside asked me to go there. I did well against King’s Lynn last Friday and then against Wolverhampton so hopefully I can carry that forward for Sheffield.
“We’ve got a big meeting against Workington tomorrow and I’m confident of keeping a good run of form going. We’ve picked a good guest for Simon Stead in Brady Kurtz, who has to be the closest you can get to Steady for ability and points scoring around Sheffield. Sheffield management have done a great job to keep our season going by booking the right guests. They could have taken the cheap option with rider replacement, but they have been careful with their selections.
“Workington have good riders but I’m confident we can keep it going and push towards the play-offs.”
Tomorrow sees an Owlerton return for American ace Ricky Wells, who rode well for Tigers in the 2013 campaign.
