Sheffield speedway: a ruthless move

Have your say

Skipper Simon Stead is urging fans to back club bosses after their ruthless move to bring in Ty Proctor at the expense of Adam Roynon.

Proctor makes his Tigers debut in tonight’s Knockout Cup home clash with Buxton.

There’s a lot of sympathy for Roynon – but Stead says the move is in the best interests of the club.

Stead said: “I’m gutted for Adam because he wanted to do so well for us and for him to be replaced is really unlucky because it’s all down to the way the new averages worked out. We all wish him well. It was a tough decision to make but I hope the fans will support it because it is in the best interests of the team. When Ty became available the management moved quickly. His acquisition will make us stronger.”

Stead added: “Replacing riders so early in the season isn’t something that’s been a regular occurence here at Owlerton. Neil Machin always stuck by his team and the fans became used to that but obviously it’s important to bring success back to this club and that’s why the decison was made.

“I want to welcome Ty to the team. He’s been a regular here at Owlerton because he lives in Sheffield, so he knows all about the Tigers and I know he can’t wait to ride for us.”
