Sheffield have suffered a pre-season blow with the loss of Taylor Poole.
The Australian ace made a good impression with the club before suffering a broken femur last season.
Now his application for a new work permit has been blocked for 2015 after the well documented issues with non-EU riders.
It’s a blow for the Owlerton side and promoter Damien Bates has sympathy for Poole who is making good progress from a serious leg injury.
He said: “Obviously this is a major disappointment for Taylor and a setback for the club because he is a rider we rate very highly.
“I have no doubt that, but for his injury, he would have finished in the top four of his State Championship in Australia.
“Now I sincerely hope he can work hard throughout 2015 and we can see him back in a Sheffield race jacket in the 2016 season.
“We are working closely with the authorities regarding sponsorship licences and work permits and naturally we respect and understand this outcome.
“Now we have to look at what alternatives there are to replace Taylor in the Sheffield team without having an impact on any other team members.”
