SHEFFIELD’S retiring skipper Shane Parker signed off in style last night.
Tigers thrashed the American Touring Team in their last home meeting of the season 70-44 while Parker ended his Owlerton career with a paid maximum from four rides.
The regular Sheffield seven were joined by veteran Americans Chris Thomas and Tuff McBride to make a nine-man team, and the regular 15 heats was extended to 18. The American side, mentored by former World Champion Sam Ermolenko, were always on the back foot as their lack of experience showed.
Hugh Skidmore scored 11 paid 12 for the Tigers and he was well backed up by Ricky Ashworth with 11. Emiliano Sanchez registered paid eight, while Simon Lambert weighed in with an impressive six paid nine. Ashley Birks had one of his best nights at Owlerton as he dropped just one point from five rides.
Josh Auty enjoyed some some entertaining battles with Elite League star Ryan Fisher on his way to a paid 11 points haul, including some breathtaking passes by the Sheffield man.
It was the perfect way for Sheffield to warm up for Sunday’s league clash at Workington, where they hope to register their first away win since July.
Team boss Eric Boocock said: “We normally go well down at Workington, if we have a full team - which it looks like we will do - we can win down there.
“It’ll be a very difficult meeting but we have to look at getting some points.
“We weren’t up against the best opposition tonight but the lads did well and they’ve all got a healthy pay-packet from it. It was a good way to go into the last two meetings.”
Sheffield scorers: Birks 11+3, Parker 11+1, Skidmore 11+1, Ashworth 11, Auty 9+2, Lambert 6+3, Sanchez 6+2, Thomas 3+1, McBride 2.
