CHESTERFIELD’S Nathan Greaves faces a major distracton as he starts to focus on his GCSEs.
The 14-year-old was crowned the 250cc and 500cc British Youth Speedway champion this week, after victory in races at Sittingbourne. He became the first junior champion to win both competitions in the same season. He was already the defending 250cc champion but added the 500cc at first time of asking.
His father Jon said: “At the end of 2011 we bought him a 500cc bike to go with his 250cc one. We had problems but got over them as a team. He rode so consistently he has ended up winning both.”
Nathan is already attracting the attention from the Speedway National Leagues, where come February and his 15th birthday he can compete.
Nathan received his first bike at the age of seven and competed on grass tracks.
Jon said: “For someone of his age and inexperience, to go on and compete in the British Championship in his first year and finish runner up was some achievement.”
2013 will be a development year for Nathan - his current age group only has the six round British Championship to compete in.
