TIGERS are sweating on the fitness of Josh Auty for tonight’s Knockout Cup trip to Workington (7pm).
Auty needs medical clearance after his crash in the first leg at Owlerton on Thursday which Sheffield won by 10-points.
There was a suggestion that the West Yorkshire youngster had suffered concussion in the crash which ruled him out early in the meeting.
Tigers boss Eric Boocock said: “Josh has been to his local hospital because on Thursday night he was warned it would be a four or five-hour wait.
“And when we go to Workington they have the man who is widely regarded as the top medical officer in the sport in Doctor Andrew Butler and he will ensure Josh is fit or otherwise.
“The only positive thing about the situation is that if we are without Josh then everyone in the team is available to cover for his four programmed rides under the rider replacement facility.
“Under the circumstances we were happy to get a 10-point lead from the home leg although with Josh in the team for four or five rides we would have done even better.
“But there is no reason why we cannot go up to Workington tonight and keep the score close and get into the semi-finals which would be a fine achievement.
“They’re a top team but so are we so it should be a cracking cup tie. I’m looking forward to it and so ar the rest of the boys, with or without Josh.”
Workington are also worried about the fitness of James Wright and Peter Kildemand has a shoulder injury.
