Hoggart tips Tigers ace Schramm to bounce back from lean spell

SHEFFIELD team boss David Hoggart is backing Chris Schramm to rediscover his best form as he drops to reserve for August.

Schramm was recruited by the Tigers in May to replace the injured Klaus Jakobsen and has been consistent, if unspectacular, since the move.

The way the averages fall for August sends Schramm to reserve, with Hugh Skidmore moving back up into the top five after a string of blistering displays.

Hoggart, however, has no worries.

He said: “The scoring power that Hugh has been giving us has contributed to some excellent recent results but it should not be forgotten that Chris Schramm is a very capable, experienced motorcyclist.

“Chris has been a solid reserve in the Elite League, so we have no worries at all about him dropping down for us. The way our team is, we have a few riders all around the five or six point mark, and a point here or there can greatly affect the make-up of the side.

“Emiliano Sanchez is a proven Premier League heat-leader but even he had a spell at reserve, that’s just the way the rolling averages system works. Chris has been scoring consistently for us, but we know there is more to come.

“On paper, it may look like it weakens us but dropping to reserve has galvanised Emiliano and Hugh already this season and hopefully it will have the same effect on Chris.”

Meanwhile, ex-Tigers rider Simon Stead has added two more stellar names to his testimonial meeting at Swindon in August. He has confirmed that Australian legend Ryan Sullivan will ride in the August 16 meeting, as will Rory Schlein.
