Sheffield hero Andre Compton is quietly confident about the Tigers’ chances of mounting a title challenge when the tapes rise on the new campaign.
Compton, 37, is predicting the new-look side to click immediately when they link up for the clubs’ press and practice day at Owlerton this Thursday (5pm).
Said Compton: “The management certainly haven’t been afraid to make changes this year, so hopefully that pays off.
“Last year was obviously a complete disaster really, but we’ve got a new look team this time around and will be hoping for much more success.
“We’ve got a lot of very talented riders in the team and it looks like being an exciting season for the club, so fingers crossed everything comes together nicely and we can be back battling at the right end of the table.
“When you look at riders like Arthur Sissis, obviously he’s untried and they are taking a chance on him but he’s proved he can ride a motorbike at a high level and he looks a real talent on a speedway bike as well.
“He looks like he is definitely capable of coming good once he settles in, then the likes of Josh Bates and David Bellego are exciting riders with plenty of talent.”
“After having a little bit more time to build the team this year the management have pieced together an exciting bunch who can hopefully get the job done,” Compton added.
“It’s impossible to tell in speedway whether a team will be successful or not. I’ve got to be honest I thought the team we had last year looked strong but it ended up being an appalling year.
“Speedway is unpredictable and you never know what will happen, so we are hoping things go our way this year and we can have a good year as a team.
“We should have a pretty good idea early on where we stand. I’m looking forward to getting together with all the boys at press and practice then hopefully we can all start to gel together before hitting the ground running when the season starts.”
